RBA Advances Tokenized Asset Research with 24 Firms in Project Acacia
The Reserve Bank of Australia has enlisted 24 industry participants for Project Acacia, a wholesale tokenized asset settlement initiative developed with the Digital Finance Cooperative Research Centre. The project explores stablecoins, deposit tokens, and CBDC pilots as potential settlement mechanisms for Australia's expanding digital asset markets.
Testing phases will run through mid-2025, with findings to inform the RBA's strategic approach to digital-era monetary policy. Assistant Governor Brad Jones framed the research as critical for modernizing Australia's financial infrastructure.
